Maclab Theatre at Citadel Theatre | May 25, 27, 29, & 31, 2026

Wagner's Siegfried, the third opera in Richard Wagner’s monumental Ring Cycle follows the coming-of-age journey of its titular hero Siegfried, a fearless but naïve young man destined to play a pivotal role in the fate of gods and mortals.

Raised by the scheming dwarf Mime, Siegfried forges a mighty sword Nothung from the shards of his father’s broken blade and uses it to slay the dragon Fafner, claiming the powerful ring and the treasure it guards. Along the way Siegfried discovers his true heritage and gains a deeper understanding of bravery and love.

The opera culminates with his awakening of the sleeping Valkyrie Brünnhilde who becomes his partner in a fateful union. With its sweeping orchestration epic themes, and rich character development, Siegfried combines moments of thrilling heroism with introspective depth, setting the stage for the dramatic conclusion of the Ring Cycle in Götterdämmerung. This powerful new production sees Edmonton Opera offering audiences an unforgettable experience of Wagner’s masterpiece.

Siegfried features the return of Jaclyn Grossman as the heroine Brünnhilde, the debut of 2024 Rumbold Vocal Prize winners Alex Halliday and Elizabeth Polese as Fafner and Waldvogel, and the highly anticipated return of Dion Mazerolle, reprising his acclaimed role as Alberich.
