This year, the team at Old Saw followed our Rumbold Vocal Prize finalists through rehearsals, coaching sessions, and competition week to capture a closer look at what it really takes to pursue a career in opera.
The talent, discipline, and determination behind these artists is extraordinary, and we are incredibly proud of each of this season’s finalists.
The documentary offers a look behind the curtain at the Rumbold Vocal Prize, the artists at the centre of it, and the work that goes into building a life in opera.
And to the Rumbold Family: thank you. Your support continues to create meaningful opportunities for the next generation of Canadian opera artists.

What is the Rumbold Vocal Prize?
“We created the Rumbold Vocal Prize to provide meaningful opportunities and assistance to emerging Canadian classical vocalists. The prizes and the Master Class opportunity are intended to help them as they work toward professional operatic careers in leading roles. We were thrilled to see 147 applications in the first year that truly showcased the talent and passion within Canada’s vibrant musical community. Nurturing emerging operatic talent has been an important mission for our family, and we are looking forward to seeing this award continue to grow and support artists by providing a platform to showcase their abilities and gain invaluable experience.”
– Grace and Arnold Rumbold, Edmonton Opera’s dedicated supporters and champions.
