Children in Grades 4–6 are invited to explore the different art forms that come together in opera through the story of Mozart’s The Magic Flute. No previous musical background required!
Music: learn songs from the opera The Magic Flute
Dance: discover how you can tell stories through movement
Scenic design: learn scenic painting techniques and build your very own prop
Costume design: take part in our team costume challenge
Parents/caregivers will be invited to a sharing session at 4pm on July 19.

Kate Ryan — Instructor
Kate has acted, directed and taught for over 20 years across North America. She is a graduate of the University of Alberta’s BFA Acting program and has studied voice and acting. She has received Sterling Awards for Leading and Supporting Actress, and Director, as well as an AMPIA for Leading Actress in film. Kate has performed in Mary Poppins, A Christmas Carol, It Takes Two: An Evening of Sondheim (Citadel); The Light in the Piazza (TC); Oklahoma, Carousel, The Sound of Music (Mayfield); The Ambassador’s Wives, and The Exquisite Hour (Teatro La Quindicina). Kate is also an instructor at Citadel Theatre's Young Musical Theatre Company and MacEwan University’s Theatre Arts program. She is the Director of Plain Jane Theatre Company (www.plainjanetheatre.com) and puppeteer (Kaybridge Puppets). She most recently directed 'All Shook Up' and 'Forever Plaid' at the Mayfield Theatre. Kate grew up loving theatre camps that her parents ran and is excited to share her passion for the arts with the great artists of tomorrow!
