Opera Centre tours

Enjoy behind-the-scenes tours of what goes into putting on an opera, from building sets to stitching costumes to rehearsing the music. Coffee and refreshments will be served.

Songs of hope

Friday, September 28

Enterprise Square (10230 Jasper Ave), above Bay/Enterprise Square LRT station

In partnership with UofA Faculty of Extension, we present a showcase of music to bring people together in the spirit of hope and reconciliation on Orange Shirt Day. The event includes:

  • Performances of opera arias, Cree songs, African folk music, and a fiddle group from Prince Charles School starting at noon

  • A post-performance panel discussion about Orange Shirt Day, held annually to raise awareness about the impact of Indian Residential Schools on the Indigenous Peoples of Canada

  • Bannock and tea

  • A pop-up market by Indigenous artisans

  • Beading workshop

  • Crafts table for kids and a photo booth

an evening in paris

Our upcoming production of La Traviata takes place in 1920s Paris, with beautiful sets and costumes to reflect the era. The multi-level set for this opera will be installed in the Opera Centre’s rehearsal hall and guests will be welcome to walk through it. The event includes:

  • A performance of French operatic favourites by soprano Whitney Sloan

  • Wine & cheese reception (wine will be available to purchase)

  • A selection of treats from Duchess Bake Shop

  • Photo booth

Francophone VAriety show

Saturday, September 29

La Cité Francophone theatre (8627 91 St)

In the heart of Edmonton’s French Quarter, audiences will enjoy performances of spoken word poetry, theatre, French opera, and Franco-Albertan music. This event is presented in partnership with L’UniThéâtre, Alberta’s only professional francophone theatre.

Around the world with edmonton opera

Experience some of the performance traditions in Alberta at this fun event, which will include:

  • Opera arias performed in various languages

  • Indian and Bollywood dance by South Asian Arts Movement

  • K-pop dance performances by APRICITY, an Edmonton-based dance crew

Free Screening of Hansel & Gretel

Families can discover the magic of opera at this screening of the 1987 film Hansel & Gretel, based on the opera by Engelbert Humperdinck. Spend your afternoon with a delightfully musical adaptation of the classic Brothers Grimm fairytale!
