Born in Salzburg in 1756, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart composed over 600 works of music, including 22 operas. Other famous operas include The Magic Flute, Don Giovanni, Così fan tutte, La clemenza di Tito, Idomeneo, and The Abduction from the Seraglio.
The Italian libretto was written by Lorenzo Da Ponte — who also famously collaborated with Mozart on Don Giovanni and Così fan tutte.
The opera is based on the second play of Pierre Beaumarchais’ Figaro Trilogy. Gioachino Rossini’s iconic The Barber of Seville was adapted from the first play and features the same beloved characters.
