Opera at City Centre

Join us at City Centre Mall (East) for a free, half-hour performance beginning at noon on Thursday, Dec. 18. We'll be in front of the big Christmas tree on the lower level by the food court, with free ornament-making crafts for children from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Soprano Victoria Biel and pianist Leanne Regehr will be performing a variety of holiday favourites. We will also be collecting toys for Santa's Anonymous, and City Centre offers gift wrapping at Guest Services with a donation to the Edmonton Epilepsy Association.

Alberta Culture Days

Join Edmonton Opera in the lobby of the Winspear Centre for a free, hour-long performance featuring chorus members, as part of the 2014 Alberta Culture Days. An opera-themed craft for young attendees will also be provided.

Opera in Cinema: Carmen

From the Royal Opera House in London, Metro Cinema presents big screen encores of the season's best live productions. Spanish heat and gypsy passion arrive on the Royal Opera stage with this darkly passionate and sumptiously exotic reading of one of the world's favourite operas. Don Jose, a naive soldier, is seduced by the wiles of the fiery gypsy Carmen. He abandons his childhood sweetheart and deserts from his military duties, only to lose Carmen's love to the glamourous toreador Escamillo.

Lucia di Lammermoor

Forbidden love, a family rivalry and the death of two lovers — echoes of Romeo and Juliet are found in Donizetti's haunting opera Lucia di Lammermoor. More than a plot function, madness is explored in this bel canto masterpiece as a personal tragedy, a political statement and a healing ritual.

Join us in the Kaasa Lobby 45 minutes before curtain for the complimentary Opera Talks, which provides an overview of the production.
