Edmonton Opera invites you to join us for the film screening of Village of Widows by award-winning filmmaker Peter Blow and post film question-and-answer period Tuesday, Nov. 13, at 7 p.m.
Village of Widows recounts the story of the Sahtu Dene people of Northwest Territories who worked in the world’s first uranium mine at Port Radium, N.W.T. Members of this community were involved in mining and related jobs, such as carrying sacks of ore, leaving them exposed to the hazardous effects of uranium. Not only faced with high cancer rates, this community was met with the realities that this uranium formed the bomb dropped on Japan during the Second World War.
It is our pleasure to host delegates from Déline and librettist Julie Salverson for the post film Q & A. This screening is part of Edmonton Opera’s outreach events surrounding the world premiere of the new Canadian opera, Shelter, Nov. 15-18 at La Cité Francophone Theatre.
