One of Verdi’s finest and darkest works, Rigoletto is a world of decadence and depravity in the Duke of Mantua’s court. Life here swirls frenetically in a circus of deception, lust, betrayal and - eventually - murder. The Duke’s jester, Rigoletto, attempts to spare his daughter Gilda from the Duke’s lust, but the more desperately Rigoletto strives to save Gilda, the closer he pushes her toward a terrible and heartbreaking fate. With a top-drawer cast led by Conductor Robert Tweten and Director David Adams and a production designed by Edmonton’s own Bretta Gerecke, Rigoletto will invite audiences into a fantastical world where morality does not apply.
