Funding announcement for Edmonton Opera’s production facility
The Government of Canada announced its financial support of the Edmonton Opera’s new production facility on Friday, March 1, as the result of the Edmonton Opera’s grant application to the Ministry of Canadian Heritage’s Cultural Spaces program.
Minister Rona Ambrose (Edmonton-Spruce Grove), accompanied by Hon. Laurie Hawn (Edmonton-Centre), made the funding announcement on behalf of Hon. James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.
The funds will be applied to the opera’s production facility, which became operational over the summer and consolidated smaller warehouse spaces into one 22,500-sq.-ft. space, with adequate storage and set and costume build space.
“We are thrilled the Government of Canada is investing in arts and culture by supporting our new production facility,” said Sandra Gajic, Edmonton Opera CEO. “This facility allows us not only adequate storage and set and costume build space, but the opportunity to be active in our community, as an employer of numerous trades and a strong member of the arts and culture scene in Edmonton.”
All three levels of government have shown their support for the facility, as well as construction consulting expertise provided by PCL Construction.
