Edmonton Opera hosts Culture Days activities for families
With two free events planned this weekend, the Edmonton Opera is joining its arts and culture colleagues across Canada for Culture Days, providing interactive and exciting opportunities for families and individuals.
This is the fifth annual Culture Days in Alberta and third across Canada. On Saturday, Sept. 29, the Edmonton Opera will host a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to be an opera singer, with warm- up and singing exercises in the Winspear Centre lobby. Introduce your family to the magic of opera with an hour of singing, music and costumed activities, starting at 2:30 p.m.
Opera moves to St. Albert on Sunday, Sept. 30, when performers from our upcoming production of Aida will perform popular favourites. The performance will be followed by a meet-and-greet with the performers, both who are local Alberta talent. The performance will take place in the Enjoy Centre, 101 Riel Dr., St. Albert, on the lower level between the bakery and the spa at 2 p.m.
The three-day Alberta Culture Days event is meant to raise awareness, accessibility, participation and engagement of Canadians in the arts and cultural life of their communities. For the Edmonton Opera, it is integral that the organization be a part of the vibrant arts and culture scene in the capital city, providing opera that moves and inspires while fostering a love and appreciation for the ancient art form in the next generation.
The timing of the arts-focused weekend also provided a perfect opportunity for the Edmonton Opera to schedule its Opera Art Project launch, in partnership with the Alberta Craft Council. On Friday, Sept. 28, opera-themed fine craft will be previewed at the craft council’s gallery, as a result of the alliance between the opera and craft council, supporting local creations and artists.
