After 50 years, the Edmonton Opera still considers this just the overture. So, a new anniversary
initiative, 50 Days of Opera, seems like the perfect way to celebrate five decades of contributions to the
Edmonton arts community.

For the next 50 days — starting Sept. 12 and through to the closing night of Salome, Oct. 31 —
scheduled events include performances, lectures, opera activities and social media initiatives. Updated
events can be found at edmontonopera.com/calendar; updates will also be posted on our Facebook page and on Twitter using #edmopera50.

Partnering with like‐minded organizations is critical to the success of this project — planned
performances with the Enterprise String Quartet and the Johann Strauss Ball Dancers (Sept. 13), EPL
Squared (Sept. 14), the Vaughan String Quartet (Sept. 22), Alberta Culture Days (Sept. 27‐29), Pecha
Kucha: Designing Downtown (Oct. 5), the Opera Art Project collection preview (Oct. 10), the Viva Verdi
Festival (Oct. 11) and a master class at the University of Alberta (Oct. 28) allows the Edmonton Opera to
extend its reach and develop new audiences.

Presenting a new concept of Salome for the 2013/14 season opener also provides a great opportunity
for the Edmonton Opera to open up the opera process as part of the 50 Days of Opera. Audiences will
be able to tour the production facility where the set was built (Sept. 17), attend a chorus rehearsal (Oct.
15), see a dress rehearsal (Oct. 18) and tour the Jubilee backstage with the set in place (Oct. 29).

The Edmonton Opera’s mandate is to extend the art form to the community, in person and online. This
anniversary project also encompasses scavenger hunts and social‐media trivia days, to challenge
participants to learn about opera in Edmonton while exploring their city.

For more information about attending any of the 50 Days events, please contact Jelena Bojic, director of
community relations, at jelena.bojic@edmontonopera.com or at 780‐392‐7837.

This event is a great example of the state of opera in our city; being sold out truly proves that Edmontonians love and support the opera, and we will continue our efforts to offer this wonderful art form in more places, venues, and festivals.
