Brokeback Mountain (Free film screening)
Sep 30 2017 - 4:00pm

Brokeback Mountain (Free film screening)

To celebrate the Alberta premiere of Lilies (Les Feluettes), Canada's first gay opera, Edmonton Opera presents a free Gay Film Series at Metro Cinema Garneau. This film series celebrates the best of gay cinema from both Hollywood and Canada in the last 20 years. From intensely romantic to psychologically charged, each film explores themes of forbidden love, societal norms, and the power of passion.

Brokeback Mountain

When two young men Ennis (Heath Ledger) and Jack (Jake Gyllenhaal) meet while herding sheep in 1960s Wyoming, the attraction between them is instant. Yet their newfound love can never go beyond the solitude of Brokeback Mountain — over the next twenty years, both men marry according to societal expectations, have children, and find ways to be together without being discovered. Far from the traditional Hollywood love story, multiple Oscar-winning Brokeback Mountain is a sweeping, timeless, and heartbreaking romantic drama.

Free admission, please RSVP on Eventbrite.

Presented in partnership with Metro Cinema
